More than 20 years ago, Ameena Hussein & Sam Perera hungrily bought and voraciously read any book written about Sri Lanka. At that time, authors were invariably from elsewhere and their stories didn't quite ring true. Very few local writers recounted stories in English, but the thirst for Lankan stories was such that they gave up their jobs overseas and decided to devote themselves to publishing and nurturing home-grown talent.
Their goal from the outset was to publish well written, well edited and well printed books. Books that have both content and style; books that appeal to you - the discerning Lankan reader. Today, many of their books have been nominated for or have won local or international prizes. They have been re-published or translated elsewhere, taking Lankan stories beyond our borders.
"Our greatest triumph is that whether published by us or not, the level of Lankan writing has improved and keeps improving in leaps and bounds. And we're very proud to be a part of that journey" - Ameena Hussein & Sam Perera
